Manchester is spoilt for choice when it comes to nights out. Genuinely, we are. But I still find myself yearning for London's pop-up scene, because they do that better than anywhere else in the country.

Maybe I'm getting old. There's no maybe about it, actually. But the idea of hearing all these incredible tunes over a few beers after work, laptop still strapped to my back, without having to wait until 2am for my favourite DJ to start, is incredibly appealing. I can't be the only one.

Interplanetary Criminal & Silva Bumpa held a 6pm to 9pm pop-up to celebrate the release of their new record this week, and it was a huge success. The tickets went so fast I ended up going on my own. At 33 I was conscious of being a fair bit older than most of the room, though I suspect that says more about the artists' pull with the newest ravers than it does about the scene itself.

There is an untapped market here, showcasing music we love without it having to mean 3am in a warehouse or part of a bigger festival. Somebody in Manchester should be doing this. They aren't.

Record of the Week: Interplanetary Criminal, Silva Bumpa - HOLD DA PHONE

The final record of the pop-up, and one I'm sure plenty of you have already caught. That infectious groove and undeniable IPC/Bumpa DNA was always going to make it an instant hit.

As always, there's a range in here. Heavier breaks with Maceo Plex - Flute Jam. Out and out speed garage with Hujie - Home-T. Something more introspective in AMNES - Ekoes. Plenty more besides.

DJ Heartstring @ SECTION: These lads have carved a name for themselves with high octane sets, usually landing somewhere between garage, trance, house and electro pop. You can't not enjoy them. They aren't as mysterious or as heavy as some I feature here. They're still brilliant.
