Thank you to everyone who filled in the survey so far, looks like we have a lot of DJs and producers in the room, which means a lot of you love gear. Not that kind. Whether it's the latest Pioneer’s (do we have to call them AlphaTheta now?), some space-age synth or old-school analogue machines, we're all guilty of the rabbit hole. That's why I had to share this video by deadmau5. Not someone who typically gets a mention under the Subsurface umbrella, but his studio is a treasure trove of new and old, and his passion is captivating. Best watch of the week that isn't a DJ set.
Let's get into it.
Record of the Week: After Hours - Tellin Me
After Hours are seriously slept on, Tellin Me finds its self somewhere in the space between UKG, Bassline & Techno. A speedy 138 BPM, no genre fully claims it, but it sits right in no-man's-land where the interesting stuff lives.
DJ Zinc is back and this one sits firmly in the bassline space. He’s been creating bass-faces across the country since the mid-90s, still going hard in 2026, self-released on his own Bingo Bass.
When Diffrent dropped "A Little Closer" in September 2024 it was in every speed garage set across the globe. Since then he's been releasing across all the biggest labels in the space, ATW, tszr, Time Is Now, Method 808. This week lands on RAW. for the imaginatively titled “Summer Hits” VA, where he appears to hold the only UKG track on the entire album. Well placed.
Plenty more to get your ears around.

ENJOYING SUBSURFACE? If so please take less than 5minutes to complete this survey, which will help me improve the content you receive in the future.

Ben UFO @ The Lot Radio: For those who have been following the socials for a while, you know I regard Ben UFO as my personal GOAT. He has never released a record, but is one of the only DJs left from a very rare class that has built a reputation purely on being a selector. He doesn’t fit into one genre, or vibe, but his selections often find common ground between bass, techno, dubstep & electronica. I knew this would be SOTW as soon as I saw the thumbnail, and then I listened to it, never a doubt.
As Tiga once said “Ben is just a guy who has better records than you”.
