Another week, another venue closure to digest. The White Hotel in Manchester, a dilapidated warehouse that served drinks from a hatch in the floor in the early days (all concentration was needed to not fall down it and break your leg), has announced it's closing in January 2027. If you know it, you know there was nowhere else quite like it. You'd stumble out at 4am only to find a queue of people only just arriving. It's supported artists big and small and will leave a considerable hole in the Manchester scene. Support these places while you can, though for The White Hotel it was less about revenue and more about its location in a high-risk flooding area. Some battles you can't win.
On to the music.
Record of the Week — Basement Jaxx - Jump N' Shout (Gorgon City Remix)
Basement Jaxx remixes are hot property right now, Where's Your Head At has had the treatment from multiple producers recently (Tonz & Woestar come to mind). But Gorgon City have set their sights on Jump N' Shout and it doesn't disappoint. High energy, it'll have you moving.
Tough ROTW call this week though. bullet tooth - All I Do is a groovy number blending the best of garage and tech house, and for something deeper, Main Phase & TALONS bring us Station Nord, minimal 140 that lets the bassline do all the work.
So much good stuff across UKG, Breaks and 140 to get your ears round this week. Grab a drink, settle in, one of my favourite release weeks.

Cam Smith @ ec2a HQ: If you're on TikTok you'll have seen Cam Smith's lives at some point, a weekly evening staple, CDJ3000s being put through their paces. He's been putting the work in for the last few years and his selections speak for themselves. UKG and beyond, all handled from his bedroom. A DJ getting the recognition he deserves. Great to see a label like ec2a put him front and centre.
