It’s a big week to be made from polyvinyl chloride, as Saturday marks Record Store Day in the UK. A day to celebrate the format that brought us DJing (hold the sync button). Stores usually bring in limited edition rare finds or imported selections. I’ll be heading into Manchester to check out Eastern Bloc, so if vinyl is your jam, some top picks by city below:
London: Phonica Records (Free Jubel beer all day w/ secret line-up)
Bristol/Nottingham: Rough Trade (Party from 2pm in Bristol and 1pm in Notts)
Manchester: Eastern Bloc Records (Annual all-day party)
Newcastle: Reflex CD & Vinyl (550 exclusive RSD titles)
Leeds: Crash Records (Exclusive stock of a 2026 press of DJ Boring’s Winona)
Sheffield: Bear Tree Records (Full RSD stocklist online)
Birmingham: Swordfish Records (An independent label w/ exclusive releases)
Glasgow: Monorail Music (BBC 6 Music special broadcast)
Edinburgh: Good Vibes Neighbourhood Store (15th Birthday Special w/ DJs)
Cardiff: Spillers Records (Officially the world’s oldest record store)
Let's get into this week’s releases.
Record of the Week - Silva Bumpa, Specialist Moss - Hypa
Silva Bumpa needs no introduction at this point and his funky, energetic style of UKG has seen him top some big bills of late. The guy's only 24 years old and is becoming one of the biggest names in the scene. This latest release continues his signature style, dancefloor ready and sure to get you moving.
We've also been treated to a new one from Denham Audio on Extra Spicy. Dark, moody and bass-driven.
Whilst we're on the topic of warehouse-ready heaters, the Murphy's Law remix of People Like Us needs a spin. A Reece bassline is always a treat for the ears and this one layers in some great spacey elements.
If you're looking to completely shell it this weekend, there are two heavier picks that can't be missed. SHOSH - Get Slippy and Gentlemens Club - Break It at 140 BPM push the genre to it’s limits.
Plenty more to get your ears round. Until next week.
